- The best time to resign is to do it first thing in the morning. Resignations can be an emotional experience, and by leaving it until the end of the day you will most likely feel the stress for the entire day.
- Have a resignation letter prepared. This only needs to be a simple letter saying that you are officially resigning from the Company and what your final day shall be. You are not required to give reason for your departure, ending off by thanking your employer would be recommended.
- Resign to your direct line manager, if he is not available you can go above the line or HR is also an alternative.
- Your employer does have the right to ask where you are going as they may want to take action should you be joining a competitor. Be prepared to be released immediately in lieu of notice period
- It is not recommended to air any grievances during the resignation process. If you wish to, request an Exit Interview at a more appropriate time, and a neutral party such as HR may be more productive.
- Finish by thanking your employer, followed by a firm hand shake. Remember the old saying “never burn your bridges”.
